O Love That Wilt Not Let Me Go

I first heard of this hymn when I was in college. I had a close friend who worked at a hospital that had this hymn on one of its walls. She wrote the words down and then found the music for it. When I first read the words, I was taken in. Then I heard the music for it. I wrote the words to this hymn on the back pages of my Bible so that I wouldn't forget. Still read it. Still sing it.

O Love That Wilt Not Let Me Go

O Love that wilt not let me go
I rest my weary soul in Thee
I give Thee back the life I owe
That in Thine ocean depths its flow
May richer, fuller be.

O Light that followst all my way
I yield my flickering torch to Thee
My heart restores its borrowed ray
That in Thine sunshines glow its day
May brighter, fairer be.

O Joy that seeks me through pain
I cannot close my heart to Thee
I trace the rainbow thro' the rain
And feel the promise is not vain
That morn shall tearless be.

O Cross that liftest up my head
I dare not ask to hide from Thee
I lay in dust life's glory dead
And from the ground there blossoms red
Life that shall endless be.

  1. I love that hymn too. We've sung it in our choir several times over the years. It's really beautiful.
